Okay, so here’s another long weekend trip we had back in Spring 2011. It was May holidays, but still quite chilly, as you can probably feel from the pictures.
Three days is more than enough unless there’s a special event in Kamyanets. We stayed outside the city centre in the 7 Days hotel – which I do recommend – it’s clean, breakfast is good and they have polite attentive staff. It is 30 minutes walk from the downtown. We wandered around on our own, without a guide, only the book and some print-outs, so no historical notes in this post.
Kamyanets is a very old (first mentioned in 1062) and very European.
The most famous site is the Castle of course. It is separated by a bridge from the old city centre.
It was low season and not much to do inside. You just walk around and take pictures of the ruins. The admission is less than €2 and you have to pay extra to take pictures, but still not much.
Yours truly was too cold and not too excited – I’m more a nature and water person I guess.
But anyway, Kamianets-Podilskiy is a nice town to visit if you happened to be in the Western Ukraine. You can easily cover both Khotyn and Kamianets in one day.
