Italy

Relaxed Venice

July 5, 2012

In April I went to Italy to visit a friend of mine for 5 days. It was a tight budget trip and I went with Wizz air – the local (and at the moment the only) low-cost from Kiev. The dates chosen, I booked the flight Kiev – Treviso (Venice).

For the record, the flight was €153 with a bus to Mestre for around €13 return. The hotel in Mestre was €60 per night (and it’s not even Venice yet!) and the bus to Piazzale Roma was around €5 return.

From Piazzale Roma we took the water bus (vaporetto) route #1, which took us directly to San Marco Square (the stop called S.MARCO VALLARESSO). Single fare around €7.

This ride is a great opportunity to see the city from the canal and is the fastest way to get around. And I took some nice pictures from the vaporetto too. (To ruin one of the stereotypes about Venice – the water DOESN’T smell!)

San Marco. Somehow I expected it to be dofferent from what it was. I thought there would be water everywhere around, but it’s surrounded by a gallery. A tiny disappointment here.

And then we just wandered around with no plan.

Gondolas are everywhere. I’ve heard a ride costs some €60. Wow, I though, it has to be very fancy, this gondola. And indeed!

Cheers guys, stay tuned for more posts to come.
