I am sure there are more great tips about where to spend an evening in Melaka, it just happened that we only had one to spare, so here’s what we did for the Happy hour in Melaka.
First off I checked the “Food” section in Foursquare to see what is best in the neighbourhood. We were staying 2 streets off Jonker street and just one block away from the 9.3 rated Pak Putra Tandoori & Naan Restaurant. 9.3! That is phenomenally high for Foursquare. It also happened to be the only recommendation from multiple hotel owners in the area. So we went.
It is basically just chicken tandoori and naan in a very typical mamak with a LOT of tables in the parking lot, but it was so good! I loved the butter naan, it smelled like freshly made popcorn. And the total bill for 4 people was less than $10 (but we didn’t eat too much, still had good memories of the morning brunch at Geographer). This is what I love about Malaysia – so often the weird looking places have the best food! Lesson learned: trust your gut feeling, ask the locals
and check social proof :-)
We went for the first. Their happy hour ends at 9:30 pm and is 5 beers (Tiger or Carlsberg) for MYR45 ($15) – whole 5 bucks cheaper than in KL! It was very nice – many people, lots of fun and good music.
Jonker street totally changes at night, very lively yet more interesting.
And that’s about it. I think one full day is okay for Melaka, but I will come again and instead of chilling at the mall for peak hot hours, would go to a museum or two.
Definitely recommend Melaka for a nice weekend getaway from KL and can’t wait to visit Penang now!
